WHO WE ARE
The mission of the youth-led Student Success Center (SSC) in Bushwick Campus High School is to support students, faculty, and staff in sustaining and growing a culture of high expectations for post-secondary student achievement for every student and to make accessible critical tools and resources to meet those expectations.
The SSC provides college exploration and preparation, academic support, and student leadership by putting young people at the center of our dialogue to identify what they need to improve access to college and by providing schools with a space to help them meet college readiness goals.

INTERNSHIP DESCRIPTION 1. Supervision
The College Intern, along with The Youth and Community Organizer, will assist the SSC Coordinator with the supervision of all Youth Leaders and students entering the Center.
Train Youth Leaders in peer tutoring, peer mediation, and train leaders to conduct workshops for their peers, parents, and community members as it relates to the college access process.
Identify what projects students are working on i.e., homework, college access information (utilizing computer software or texts), etc.
2. Publicity
Assist SSC staff with publicity for activities, events, and other programs. This can be done by developing flyers, posters, and other handouts.
Send information to MRNY Co-Director (Oona) for approval of information to be sent to newspapers, radio/TV stations, etc.
3. Special Initiatives Responsibilities
Support the efforts of a High School College Counselor with the college application process and scholarship initiative.
Identify Seniors and Advanced Juniors, via the College Counselor, who are behind in completing college preparedness tasks i.e., personal essay, online applications, scholarship searches etc. Provide support—in classroom setting and SSC—for these students and others to ensure completion of designated tasks.
Support the College Counselor in developing programs and workshops geared towards making students and parents aware of the complete college process including financial aid and scholarships. (Attend workshops to prepare college intern to become proficient in financial aid and scholarship matters)
Train Youth Leaders to introduce the specific initiative to building principals and support staff.
Spearhead the project using youth leaders and school support staff, when necessary.
Conduct weekly meetings, pertaining to the project, and prepare minutes for submission to SSC Coordinator on a weekly basis. Include updates and project plans for upcoming week.
Type minutes of SSC meetings and reports as requested.
Communicate with SSC Coordinator when necessary.
Assist Coordinator with phone calls and leave message when necessary.
It's Official!
Make the Road New York! Latin American Integration Center and Make the Road by Walking celebrated the announcement of their merger at SEIU 32BJ's Auditorium on Wednesday, September 19, 2007 to a packed audience. Schools Chancellor Joel Klein, joined us to celebrate the event.
