³Alone, we simply lack the power to change our communities. Working together, though, we can change almost anything.²

Organizing and Advocacy
Organizing is the heart of Make the Road by Walking¹s activities. Through collective action, media outreach, and coalition building, we build power for low-income New Yorkers and we catalyze real change.
Make the Road by Walking¹s organizing projects confront core injustices suffered by low-income, immigrant New Yorkers. Make the Road Staff coordinate organizing activities, but our real power comes from the active participation, leadership and dedication of our membership base.
Every organizing project meets at Make the Road by Walking at least once a week, every week, to reflect on campaign progress to date, develop new strategies and tactics, and plan next steps in the fight for justice and equality.
Expanding the membership base is also a key responsibility of staff organizers and members. By expanding our numbers, we increase our strength‹and bring important new perspectives to bear on our work.
To maximize our impact, Make the Road by Walking works in coalition with a broad range of organizations: from neighborhood churches to labor unions and other non-profits serving low-income and immigrant communities. Together, we have changed lives as well as public policy.
