Thanks to the energy and determination of our members, staff, and supporters, MRNY experienced our most successful year yet, culminating with two major victories for immigrant rights: in October, Governor Cuomo issued a statewide Executive Order to mandate translation and interpretation at state agencies, and in November, we helped pass a new law in NYC to limit collaboration between city correctional facilities and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), a move that will prevent thousands of unjust deportations and save the City tens of millions of dollars annually.
We also made great strides for immigrants and working families by mobilizing thousands of new voters in Long Island, standing up for the rights of youth and transgender victims of police harassment, strengthening immigrant small businesses, and winning justice for students in overcrowded schools.
